Fire dangers loom over 4th of July holiday weekend
As the 4th of July holiday weekend approaches, the City of Maricopa Fire Department wants to remind everyone of the dangers of playing with fireworks, along with safe BBQ and campfire practices. This is a great weekend for families to get together and enjoy our beautiful summer weather, either at a backyard BBQ or around a campfire. Although these are both fun summer activities, they both pose a serious fire threat. By following some simple fire prevention tips, everyone can enjoy a safe holiday.
Every year there are numerous unnecessary injuries and deaths related to people playing with illegal fireworks. As no 4th of July celebration is complete without a fireworks display, it is best left to the professionals, putting together their beautiful shows under extremely controlled environments.

Snider: Let’s work together to keep our kids safe
Happy Birthday – there are 233 candles on that really BIG cake – USA! On behalf of myself, my family, and, I’m confident, my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors, here’s a heartfelt “Thank You!” to all those Americans who have or are serving in our armed forces in order to protect and preserve our democratic form of government with all the privileges we enjoy today. I want to especially take this time to salute not only the men and women who are serving today – particularly those warriors in harm’s way in Afghanistan and Iraq – but their families as well. Theirs is often the hardest battle and they deserve not only our gratitude for their sacrifices but our support during these long, lonely months of separation.
